Thank you for visiting the Fennstar Forever fundraising page! We have spent the last year and half working with the amazing non-profit, Shatterproof to raise funds to honor my brother's memory and raise awareness. Shatterproof is a national nonprofit organization committed to protecting our loved ones from addiction to prescription and illicit drugs and alcohol and ending the stigma and suffering of those affected by this disease.
I kicked off this fundraising campaign on Mike's birthday (3/29) of 2017: his first birthday without him. I had a goal of running it until the day of his passing (10/12) with an aim of $2800 in honor of what would have been his 28th year. However, due to the outpouring amount of love and support we hit that goal in ONE day! Since then, we have raised a significant amount of money for the cause. Let's keep it up on all of his birthdays!
This year is no different. I ask again our amazing network to consider donating to this very important cause. Please consider donating $31 for what would have been his 31st birthday!
Our team ends the year with the Fennstar Forever team running / walking in Shatterproof's Rise Up Against Addiction 5K Run/Walk in DC in October. In 2017, it occurred on October 21st ---This day was meaningful to us, as it is the same day we had Mike's celebration of life three years ago. Please consider joining our team!
Michael Ladd Fennig, or "MAF" to his friends, was a funny, sensitive, and caring person who loved life. He died at the young age of 27 of an opioid overdose. Mike battled addiction for seven years. His addiction stemmed from a dual diagnosis of ADHD and anxiety. He struggled with substance abuse of opioids and heroin during this time.He had highs and lows: periods of sobriety mixed with periods of use. He was a pillar of support for his friends of similar struggles. Some of his friends have admitted that they are alive today because of Mike's help. He felt a constant need to be "normal" and thought he could manage this struggle on his own. He lost his struggle at age 27 after a period of relapse. A memorial for Michael can be found at: shatterproof.org/memorial/michael-fennig
We miss him every minute of every day and continue to honor his legacy. We hope we are making you proud, Michael. We love you.
Shatterproof is changing the conversation about addiction. They are saving lives by helping pass laws that prevent more of our loved ones from becoming addicted to prescription opioids and supporting first responders who can rescue those who overdose. Your support helps expand their efforts to support prevention, treatment, rescue and recovery of addiction.
Please support my fundraiser by making a donation to Shatterproof today. Together, we are stronger than addiction. We Are Shatterproof!
