Hello, friends! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am running a half marathon on Sunday, May 14, 2017 to raise funds and awareness for Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization committed to protecting our loved ones from addiction to prescription and illicit drugs and alcohol. Together, we can help end the stigma and suffering of those affected by this disease.
My mom has struggled with opioid and alcohol addiction for much of my life. Her addiction has caused me to feel a mix of emotions including sadness, anger, fear, resentment, confusion, embarrassment and guilt. And it wasn’t until I began to educate myself on the disease of addiction, that I began to understand that it wasn’t my fault or her fault, and it didn’t have to be embarrassing at all.
Shatterproof is changing the conversation about addiction. They are saving lives by helping pass laws that prevent more of our loved ones from becoming addicted to prescription opioids and supporting first responders who can rescue those who overdose. Addiction doesn’t always start in dark alleys— it starts in medicine cabinets and doctors offices, and it can happen to anyone. Your support helps expand Shatterproof’s efforts to support prevention, treatment, rescue and recovery of addiction.
My mom is an incredible, generous, loving woman. She loves running and animals and being outside, and it’s a shame that this disease has taken over her life. I desperately wish she would find recovery, but Shatterproof gives me hope that by working together and sharing our stories and raising awareness for this disease we can prevent addiction from happening to other people, and I can prevent it from happening to myself.
Please support my fundraiser by making a donation to Shatterproof today. Together, we are stronger than addiction. We Are Shatterproof!
