Emily Maher
Reporter, WCVB Channel 5
Emily Maher is a general assignment reporter for WCVB Channel 5’s award-winning NewsCenter 5 team.
She joined NewsCenter 5 from fellow Hearst Television station KCRA Channel 3 in Sacramento, California, where she served as a reporter since 2018 for the local NBC affiliate. During her time in California, Emily covered some of the state’s most deadly and destructive wildfires, including one that destroyed the town of Paradise. She also traveled to San Jose to cover the deadly mass shooting at a public transit railyard. In addition, Emily had the opportunity to fly overhead in the helicopter, covering protests and demonstrations at the Capitol.
Prior to KCRA, Emily spent three years working in Louisville, Kentucky, where she reported on a wide range of stories including education, crime, and the legendary Kentucky Derby. Before Louisville, she was as a reporter in Northwest Arkansas.
Emily is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, where she earned degrees in broadcast journalism and political science.
As a native Rhode Islander, you can always count on Emily to be cheering on her New England teams.
When she’s not rooting for her home teams, you can find Emily outside, most often on a run. She has completed four half-marathons and is hoping to run the renowned Boston Marathon in the near future.
