In Loving Memory of Marc Kane

Jaclyn Brown

Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page! I am raising funds and awareness for Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the devastation the disease of addiction causes families.

My brother, Marc, passed away on November 16, 2018, due to a heroin overdose. Marc battled with addiction and depression for many years after a car accident in November 2010. He was always optimistic that he could win his battle on his own, but the hold that addiction had was much stronger than any of us could have ever imagined. My mission now is to be an advocate for people and their families who need help in dealing with this terrible disease and help end the stigma of addiction.

On Sunday, May 5th, I will be hosting a memorial event called Marc's Mile at McClintock High School in Tempe, AZ. It will be a 1 mile event to walk in Marc's honor, celebrate his life, and help build a Shatterproof community in Phoenix (and beyond) that is stronger than addiction. Please see the event details here: facebook.com/events/2627798607235733

Shatterproof is changing the conversation about addiction. They are saving lives by helping pass laws that prevent more of our loved ones from becoming addicted to prescription opioids and supporting first responders who can rescue those who overdose. Your support helps expand their efforts to support prevention, treatment, rescue and recovery of addiction.

Thank you for taking the time out to visit the page and I hope to see you on May 5th!

Update 4/20/19: I hit the new goal of $3,000 earlier this week!!! After lots of encouragement, poking, and prodding from friends, I have decided to up the goal to $5,000! We are now 15 days out from Marc's Mile and I am hoping my upcoming blog post will push me over my new goal. As always, thank you all for the support and love.
Update 4/10/19: I hit my initial goal of $2,000!!! I could not be more excited and grateful for the generosity of so many amazing people. We still have more than 3 weeks to Marc's Mile and I have faith I can raise more, so I am increasing my goal to $3,000. This number is a little more symbolic, as Marc would have been 30 this year. I was scared to even do a $2,000 goal in the beginning, as I wasn't sure if people would want to help. However, I am confident now I can reach $3,000 after this AMAZING display of generosity. Thank you all again for all the love and support!!
