Support Me

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!  I'm proud to introduce myself as a person in recovery from addiction, meaning that I abstain from all mind-altering substances.  One of tools I use to stay sober is running, and I've always dreamt of participating in the New York Marathon.  With the pandemic, I've decided to get creative and do the race virtually in New Haven, CT on October 25th at 1pm along the Farmington Canal bike path.  I'd like to dedicate this race to my mother.  No other person has been more deeply hurt by my actions.  I think about her pain any time I feel like giving up on a run.  These 26.2 miles are for you, mom.

I also felt this would be an excellent opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Shatterproof, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reversing the addiction crisis in the United States.  I chose Shatterproof because they are changing the conversation about addiction by advocating for policy change, educating our communities, transforming addiction treatment, and shattering stigma. Your support helps expand their efforts to support prevention, treatment, and recovery of addiction. Studies show that one in every three people are affected by addiction, so chances are that your life will directly benefit from their efforts.

Getting and staying sober has been, by far, the hardest thing I've ever done.  Without treatment and support from loved ones, I never would have recovered.  I truly believe that lasting change can be elicited by reducing barriers to quality treatment.  We must also work to overcome the discomfort of talking about addiction recovery.  In comparison to challenging this issue head-on, running a marathon will be easy.  And I will run the race just like I approach my recovery…one mile at a time, and with the help of my community, without which none of this would be possible.

Please support my fundraiser by making a donation to Shatterproof today. I realize times are tough, but even a small amount helps immensely.   Together, we are stronger than addiction. Together, We Are Shatterproof!
